Collaboration Day Summaries 2016-2017
September-Jenny Franz attended the ELA adoption committee meeting to review and critique the programs available for possible piloting. Barb Drange and Annette Fuelling organized and attended a training with David Paszkiewicz, LCUSD’s Instructional Specialist, to learn new Google applications to implement into our classrooms. They also discussed student progress.
October-K -6th went to the District Office to listen to presentations for the ELA Adoptions. They heard from McGraw Hill Education’s Journeys Program as well as Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. All Grade Level leaders will be picking up kits to have at their site as well as technology codes to use.
November-The Fifth Grade team discussed the MobyMax program and how to utilize it with their students. They discussed the Science curriculum and their use of a Science notebook. They also planned out the remaining field trips for Adventure Week, which occurs in February as an alternate experience to Valley Forge.
December- The 5th grade teachers discussed student progress and strategies on working with struggling students. They met with Mrs. Stassel to check in on students with IEP's. Additionally, they looked at the pacing of Journey's, an ELA program that is currently being piloted. They coordinated upcoming social studies projects and made additional plans for Valley Forge. Mrs. Drange looked at the upcoming plans for pacing in math.
January- The 5th grade teachers diligently worked together to complete several student recommendations, student assessments and evaluations, along with parent conferences. We discussed our plans for the upcoming school week, and planning for Valley Forge/Adventure week trips.
February-Together, the 5th grade team met to discuss student progress with Mrs. Blaney. We talked about our Valley Forge and Adventure Week journals and created a grading rubric. Additionally, we shared PPT presentations and coordinating activities in Social Studies. We discussed the Wonders Pilot Spelling component that was shared with us by Karen Gilmour.
March- The 5th grade team worked together to discuss student progress and intervention methods to assist students. We examined the ELA pilot and the pro’s and con’s of the two textbook series. After discussion, we made our recommendation to send to Mrs. Blaney. We created writing rubrics, and lesson plans for the upcoming weeks.
April- Today, the 5th Grade team met with Donna Stassel, our RSP teacher, to discuss student progress and future meetings. Additionally, we discussed curriculum for the 2017-18 school year and ordered textbooks for next year’s classes. We worked on student recommendation letters and sent out communication to our 5th grade families regarding student personal items.
May- The fifth grade team met with the representative of Journeys, our ELA program for the 2017-2018 school year, for some preliminary training. We also met with Mrs. Blaney to discuss scheduling for the upcoming school year.
